[opensuse] SMC WiFi LAN Adapter
Greetings, Anyone know how to get an SMC 2862W-G USB wifi adapter working in Opensuse 10.3? In yast>network devices it shows up as EZ Connect G device (the name of the thing), but I can't get it to connect to my router with WPA-PSK. I enter the ssid, and my passphrase, but it won't connect. I don't know if this is a hardware setup problem or an encryption issue. The device is known to work on other OS's. Which OS's? According to http://linux-wless.passys.nl/query_part.php?brandname=SMC that devioce seems to be problematic for a native driver, but did you allready try ndiswrapper and the windows driver ? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

No, haven't tried either yet. The linux drivers on the link you gave me appear to require a firmware mod. Not sure I want to try that yet. I do, use this box with WinXP too, so I don't want to mod the adapter if I can help it. I'll try ndiswrapper to see if that works. As the name of the thing is recognized in yast, I was hopeful that it would run natively in 10.3. But I guess there's nothing wrong with using ndiswrapper. Just wanted to report back that using ndiswrapper and the windows xp driver works great! I followed the instructions on the opensuse wiki and the usb adapter works fine. Many thanks!
