[SLE] Troubles with SuSE 7.0 on Sony PCG-F490 VAIO Notebook
Have just bought Sony PCG-F490 VAIO Notebook. Has Win98SE installed. Specs. Pentium III 650 MHz 128 MB SDRAM 18.1 GBdrive 15" XGA active matrix LCD (1024 x 768) TFT screen Graphics, NeoMagic MagicMedia 256XL with 6.0 MB VRAM Set aside and formatted 12 GB for SuSE 7.0. 128 Swap, 50 /boot ext2, rest Reiser FS Problems: 1) Had same RPM problem reported earlier using DVD CD (almost everything), and it was exceedingly slow to load. Over 10 Hours!! Reformatted after nothing but errors and no GUI. From the console YAST, YAST2 and SAX would not even work. 2) Reinstalled using standard CDs but only minimum plus Office. Tried just about every combination of Horizontal and Vertical sync rates and various resolutions. Could not find any reference to NeoMagic Chip Sets orGraphics. Works only in console, sort of........ Can't start Yast or Sax Can anyone point me in the right direction? Has any one got 7,0 to work with this NeoMagic Chipset?
