RE: [SLE] Unable to configure internal modem (conexant 56kbps)
I have a conexant modem and I do have it working! There is someone who has created a general conexant driver. You must build it from source and load the module and you have your conexant modem working! However, currently I am at work, and I have the conexant modem at home :-( I will find it out and mail OR the link, OR the source (because I think I have this at home). Regards Harry

I have the same piece of hardware but I am unable to do the same myself. The Modem simply does not have a driver in Linux. Not even from DLink's official website.

I also use Conexant HCF modem at home. What you need is only a rpm which
can be found at this site :
http://www.mbsi.ca/cnxtlindrv/
This site is linked from Conexant. If the rpm doesn't work, dwld the
generic source and install it.
Hope it helps..

Hi, Thanks for the info. I will download and try it out. I have one more question. I presume the Conexant internal modem is a completely software modem. Is it true that software modems do not perform as well as the external modems? Raghav oeren@ykb.com wrote:

Well, i never used a real modem with my connection at home; so i can't
tell you the difference, but i use conexant hcf with zero problem. The
drivers for linux work excellently, although they are beta versions.
I didn't think conexant hcf is completely sw, i heard it's half-sw
solution. Anyway i'm not sure about it..

Hi, Thanks to all who have replied to this topic. I think my Conexant internal modem is a HSF modem. What is the optimum speed at which i should connect to the internet if my telephone line speed is around 28 Kbps? Raghav oeren@ykb.com wrote:
