HW Autodetect Message Box
Hi list, I use SUSE 10.0 Boxed version on x86_64. I closed the pop-up-box for the Suse Hardware Detection where it is asked if you want to open for eg. a USB stick or CD, and checked the box that says "do not ask again". How can I get the pop up to come up again (ie. un-check the check box)? :-) Al

In the KDE control center, search for "storage media". In the module that comes up, you can specify the the behavior for many classes of devices, as well as reset to defaults. I'm not positive that will begin to show the dialog boxes again, but it is a start. HTH Mark
My guess is that suseplugger is what you're looking for.
You may want to have a look at the following article:

or google for more info.

/opt/kde3/share/config/susepluggerrc does not seem to have an option; In ~/.kde/share/config/susepluggerrc there is none either it seems: eg. [/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/net_a6_78_ad_e5_14_d2] PopupDone=true [CD media auto handler] CDdefaultApp_CDaudio_doAsk=true CDdefaultApp_CDaudio_doStart=true CDdefaultApp_CDblank_doAsk=true CDdefaultApp_CDblank_doStart=true CDdefaultApp_CDdata_doAsk=true CDdefaultApp_CDdata_doStart=true HDDCamdefaultApp_doAsk=false HDDCamdefaultApp_doStart=false [Default] CheckFor75dpi=false [General] Autostart=true DoNotShowPopup=false UseCDAutoStart=true UseCDMediaDetect=true Any idea to start SuSEPlugger to get to the option? Googled as well, to no avail. :-/ Al

from a command line: suseplugger --help
Two things: 1) Have you tried that? The output it produces can hardly be considered helpful: % suseplugger --help Usage: suseplugger [Qt-options] [KDE-options] Generic options: --help Show help about options --help-qt Show Qt specific options --help-kde Show KDE specific options --help-all Show all options --author Show author information -v, --version Show version information --license Show license information -- End of options 2) While suseplugger runs on my system and starts automatically at login: PID TTY STAT TIME COMMAND 7268 ? S 0:02 suseplugger [kdeinit] -caption SUSE Hardware Tool -icon hardware -miniicon hardware It does not put the old hardware icon into the system tray. Is this a change from the behavior it used to have, or is it a result of a configuration option?

Certainly
The output it produces can hardly be considered helpful:
Your better than that: :~> suseplugger --help Usage: suseplugger [Qt-options] [KDE-options] [options] .... Options: --quiet be quiet and exit if SuSEPlugger is already running --plain don't dock into the kde kicker --swallow run inside a swallow enviroment, eg. swallow in WindowMaker or inside the Gnome panel Did you look at all of it, ie: --plain If I wanted it to dock, which the OP requested (air), looks like I would run 'suseplugger' w/o any options, especially '--plain'. You want to be critical, get *all* the facts first. By which I take it you meant "You're better than that." Nonetheless, it does not appear we're running the same version of suseplugger, because mine produces no non-generic help text, even if you give it the --help-all option. All the help output pertains to generic KDE or Qt options.
...
Did you look at all of it, ie: --plain
That is not documented in my suseplugger, nor is it accepted when used: % suseplugger --plain suseplugger: Unknown option '--plain'. suseplugger: Use --help to get a list of available command line options. Which version of SuSE Linux and of suseplugger are you running? % rpm -q --whatprovides $(type -p suseplugger) kdebase3-SuSE-10.0-21 % suseplugger --version Qt: 3.3.5 KDE: 3.5.0 Level "a" SUSEPlugger: 3.4.2
If I wanted it to dock, which the OP requested (air), looks like I would run 'suseplugger' w/o any options, especially '--plain'.
That may work on your system, but I've already tried it on SuSE 10, and it does not result in a system tray icon.
You want to be critical, get *all* the facts first.
To whom are you addressing this?

Many things are not as they should be. I personally think it's better to refrain from responding it all than to respond only with admonishment, though I don't quite always manage to do that myself.

You're excused. And I understand the difference betweey your and you're. I'm sorry that your version of suseplugger does not contain all the previous functions. I hate to kick a good thing. I still have 9.1, 9.2, 9.3 and 10.0 on the shelf, but will change soon. wahoo:~> rpm -qf `which suseplugger` kdebase3-SuSE-9.0.90-81 wahoo:~> suseplugger --version Qt: 3.3.4 KDE: 3.4.2 Level "b" SuSEPlugger: 3.1.3 no-one has prepared KDE 3.5 for 9.0 or I would be there! ps: I won't if you don't <grin>.... -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2

OK, Thanx. I just entered suseplugger w/o options and it came up when I plugged a usb device. How can I be sure that suseplugger starts with boot? :-) Al

Great, it is all OK now. It seems by just starting it once again from the console with the command 'suseplugger' w/o options restores the lines just as you point out with 'Autostart:true'. Thanx Partick :-) Al
I just right-clicked on the suse-plugger in the icon and it brought up a menu then a window with a lot of options. You might find what you're looking for there. -- "It is not knowable how long that conflict would last, it could last, you know, six days, six weeks.
