Mornin' SuS(ers), My tried and true VNCviewer (at least w/6.4) gets "authentication failed" message when trying to connect w/ my windows boxes. They can connect w/ me, however. I have tried all the normal permissions changes, but nada. How in the heck can I screw up my wife's Freecell games without this? ;-) But seriously, I would like this to work as I can monitor the kiddies' surfing now that they have a machine in their room.....I am after all, SuperUser. Anyone else had problems with this? Hello, everyone. I was going to ask a question about this myself, but from the other side. I use a newly setup 7.0Pro box at work, and used to use VNC to connect back to my home box via DSL to check my mail. This was very convenient. But now, the viewer finds my home machine, prompts me for the password, and then just disappears. No error messages or anything. It also fails to load the java version in Netscape if I try it through the browser. This used to work just great on SuSE6.3, which was my previous version. I too would like to hear if anyone has any fixes for this. I know the VNC people have upgraded the Windows versions a number of times in recent months, but there has been very little done on the Unix/Linux versions. I have cc'd the VNC folks to see if they can add this to their buglist or something. Hello, again. There are some VNC mailing lists and there is a searchable archive here http://www.uk.research.att.com/search.html. I just did a quick search for "suse professional" and found that many VNCers have also encountered this problem with SuSE7. Apparently, instead of using the xvnc popup, run vncviewer from the command line with the hostname as a parameter, e.g. vncviewer bilbo.baggins.com I can't vouch for this personally, since I haven't yet built my home SuSE7 box, so I can't test it right now. Also, the problem appears to occur not just when going from SuSE7 to Windows, but from SuSE7 to SuSE7 too. SuSE7 is definitely the common denominator.
