[opensuse] Help! X - I plugged in an external monitor - now pager is twice as big & logout is on right side of screen??
Guys, I plugged in an external monitor while in kde. The monitor never really got configured so I removed it. When restarting the pager in the taskbar is twice as big as it should be horizontally, and when I click logout, the logout dialog is 1/2 visible on the far right of my screen. Something like extend monitor on 2nd display must be set, but where in the hell is it? No only does it affect kde, but when I log into gnome, the wallpaper is so stretched, I only see the left side of it. What did it do and how do I fix it?? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. These are the only files and directories in my home directory that have changed today, but nothing pops out: -rw------- 1 david dcr 11581 2010-04-26 15:36 .xsession-errors -rw-r--r-- 1 david dcr 56 2010-04-26 15:13 .DCOPserver_alchemy__0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 david dcr 34 2010-04-26 15:13 .DCOPserver_alchemy_:0 -> /home/david/.DCOPserver_alchemy__0 -rw------- 1 david dcr 8329 2010-04-26 15:13 .ICEauthority -rw------- 1 david dcr 23 2010-04-26 15:13 .dmrc -rw------- 1 david dcr 211 2010-04-26 15:13 .Xauthority -rw------- 1 david dcr 308415 2010-04-26 15:12 .bash_history -rw------- 1 david dcr 16006 2010-04-26 15:12 .viminfo -rw-r--r-- 1 david dcr 819606 2010-04-26 15:02 .recently-used.xbel drwxr-xr-x 2 david dcr 4096 2010-04-26 15:30 .xine drwx------ 2 david dcr 4096 2010-04-26 15:25 .gconfd drwx------ 6 david dcr 4096 2010-04-26 15:14 .gconf drwxr-xr-x 2 david dcr 4096 2010-04-26 15:13 .qt drwxr-xr-x 125 david dcr 4096 2010-04-26 15:13 . drwx------ 3 david dcr 4096 2010-04-26 15:11 .mc drwx------ 20 david dcr 4096 2010-04-26 15:03 .gnome2 drwxr-xr-x 3 david dcr 4096 2010-04-26 15:03 .nautilus drwxr-xr-x 4 david dcr 4096 2010-04-26 15:01 .gnupg drwxr-xr-x 22 david dcr 4096 2010-04-26 13:41 .gimp-2.6 drwxr-xr-x 5 david dcr 4096 2010-04-26 12:57 .emerald -- David C. The problem was caused by some ATI fglrx bug that causes AMD Catalyst Control Center to change the root settings extending your display onto the second monitor. This change effects all users. Looking at the amdcccle setting, they were all CORRECT. But, sneakily, if you toggle the display resolution down one, then toggle it back to where it was shown before, the problem magically fixes itself. #$%#$% ATI -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
