Question: Can I use this with SuSE 64-bit? I downloaded and tried to install apt, but I'm having problems. apt-0.5.15cnc6-0.suse091.rb.5 says it needs libapt-pkg-libc6.3-5... libpopt.so.0 librpm-4.1.so librpmdb-4.1.so librpmio-4.1.so -- Tom Nielsen Neuro Logic Systems, Inc. 1.805.389.5435 x18 www.neuro-logic.com

I have never heard of a succesfull apt compile on a suse_64 system. On other _64 systems (Fedora/RH) apt is available. It would be interesting to hear of a succesfull compile. -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

You'll get synaptic from the suser-rbos repository, which is listed in the apt configuration for 9.1 at http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/ David

I'd use Red-Carpet......more better. :) Fred -- "Running Windows on a Pentium is like getting a Porsche but only being able to drive it in reverse with the handbrake on."
order to run synaptic. A little help please?

I just installed it for the first time last night -- does look pretty usefull. (search through the last day's worth of posts, there's one with a subject of "openoffice problem with kde3.3" that tells about a nice set of channels you can add that includes all the major SuSE repositories (official SuSE, Packman, ULB, etc).

Yep........I set it up as root, then go to users and setup as a user with full rights. Logoff as root, then back to user and it's works perfectly! NO grief, and accurate updates. SUSE will REALLY MISS THE BOAT if they don't standardize on Red-Carpet for updates, IMHO!! I'm sure that is what Novell has in mind for it's higher end software like SLES. Red Carpet, from what I've read, is why Novell acquired Ximian. It wanted Linux software on a level with it's Windows software, to give admins the ability to update systems across the network easily. Mike
