Lost all screensavers after KDE 3.3 update
Sorry if this has already been asked. I do try to keep up with the list messages as best I am able. Did a Yast on-line update today and followed that with the KDE and Packman rpms from red-carpet. All of them downloaded with no dependency error messages. However, I have lost all screensavers. Nothing starts. Instead I get only a blank screen. None of the screensavers will launch when <test> is clicked in the "configure desktop" window. In addition, clicking <set-up> also does nothing. I went to usr/X11R6/lib/xscreensaver/ and I can launch any screensaver by clicking on the icon. But those same screensavers won't launch automatically based on the designated inactivity period or when I click the "test" button in the configuration screen. Any ideas? Am I overlooking something incredibly obvious? Note: "start automatically" **is** ticked in the configuration window. Thanks Gil

There have been questions about screensavers lately, either on suse-linux-e or suse-kde. Try Google, as search terms use 'screensaver site:lists.suse.com'. Cheers, Leen

Google is your friend, remember? And if Google hasn't had a chance to index the relevant pages since a relevant posting has been made, it's still feasible to search "manually" in likely places such as the current or previous month's mailing list archive thread index. http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-kde/2004-Aug/0135.html
Thanks Gil

Thanks, Randall. I had already searched through roughly the first 100 results on Google but had not found anything on this issue. I appreciate you pointing me back to the recent thread on this problem. As I said, I try to keep up with the discussions but I don't read and absorb every post to the SuSE list. Gil

No, no, no. You could at least read the other replies that have come in since the original post! Not only has this been asked and answered numerous times, now, there's a much better solution than atavism.
