[opensuse] question on DNS
Guys, Is there way to force bind to use _? I got a lot of oracle db's. We are moving from AD to bind, so far any db names are breaking bind. Sent from my iPod -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Bummer, a broken bind is never fun. First, let me just clarify that when you say "bind" you are referring to the "Berkeley Internet Name Domain" (BIND) (See: https://www.isc.org/software/bind/whatis) and not some other use of the term "bind" such a binding an IP address to a specific NIC or something else that can be called "bind". If you are talking about BIND, to make sure I understand what you are saying you need with BIND is: (1) designations in the forward or reverse zone file that make use of _? (how I don't know) that will allow access to all of the oracle databases you are dealing with?? I obviously do not know anything about oracle db's, but I do make use of BIND fairly heavily and I don't recall a _? zone file descriptor standing out in the BIND 9 ARM. Now I could just be showing my ignorance, but you might want to add a few more details for others on the list that may know the answer to part of your question (or all of it) but may not be oracle gurus per se. I did a quick search of https://www.isc.org/search/node/oracle, but I didn't turn anything up at the ISC site related to oracle: Advanced search Enter your keywords: oracle Advanced search Your search yielded no results * Check if your spelling is correct. * Remove quotes around phrases to match each word individually: "blue smurf" will match less than blue smurf. * Consider loosening your query with OR: blue smurf will match less than blue OR smurf. -- David C. You can't use '_' in a domain name as it's not one of the allowed characters. Unless you're using internationalized domain names, the only valid characters in domain names are the letters A to Z, the numbers 0 to 9, and a hyphen (-). A dot (.) is also valid, but is used as a separator between parts of the domain name. Each part of the domain name should be between 1 and 63 characters in length with a total length of the domain name of 255 characters, or less. Also, using two hyphens next to each other, or having a hyphen at either end of a sub-domain is also invalid. URL:http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc3490.html deals with internationalized domain names. URL:http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1035.html deals with the implementation and specification for domain names. URL:http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1034.html is the companion to RFC-1035 and deals with domain name concepts and facilities. URL:http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2181.html tries to clarify some of the problem areas relating to RFC-1034 and RFC-1035.
