you need jbd in conjunction with ext3 driver. go add it to mk_initrd and rerun script and reboot. INITRD_MODULES="jbd ext3" but i could be wrong..... mk

Here is what I did.
1: Changed the line in /etc/rc.config which read: INITRD_MODULES="" to: INITRD_MODULES="ext3"
2: changed /etc/fstab to read ext3 for the partition I want as ext3
3: computer:/ # mk_initrd
4: reboot.
the result is that the partition will not mount. So I look through the /var/log/boot.msg file and find a few things: . . . <6>Journalled Block Device driver loaded <3>ext3: No journal on filesystem on ide0(3,1) <4>ide0: unexpected interrupt, status=0x58, count=1 . . mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hda1, or too many mounted file systems . . . .
So it looks to me like the ext3 driver is loading (good) but it thinks the drive/partition is not ready. There is a .journal file on the partition in question, it was created yesterday when I ran tune2fs -j /dev/hda1
I though of deleting the .journal file and running the initialization command again, but it says that the file is read-only, and does not want to delete it. Is it safe to force it?

JDB is IIRC only the debugging stuff for jouranling FSs. I use ext3 (I compiled it into the kernel directly) without problems and I converted _all_ my ext2 partitions to ex3. Rene

JDB stands for Journaling Block Device. It provides generic journaling functionality which ext3 depends on. EXT3 module would not load unless jbd is already loaded....either manually or through modprobe through dependency check. Cheers, -- Nadeem Hasan nhasan@nadmm.com http://www.nadmm.com/

Oh, then I had the wrong option in mind..... Sorry Rene
OK, I tried it with jbd module as well, but no go. I still get the message during bootup: <3>ext3: No journal on filesystem on ide0(3,1) How do i get a journal on ide0(3,1)? I ran tune2fs -j on /dev/hda1 On Thursday, December 20, 2001, at 12:17 PM, Purple Shirt wrote:
