Hi all, I use Suse Linux 7.1 and I have two networks. One is 100Mbit, the other one is 10Mbit only. My question is: how to see the current speed of the network card via ifconfig or anything else? I am asking this because in my 100Mbit network I can often reach some megabytes/s transfer speed, while in my 10Mbit network I am used to 700Kbyte/sec speed. There is nothing wrong with this, but it looks like the network card of my laptop is always 10mbit because it's always slow. Praise

There is a package out there called ttcp. Search for it on Google, download,
unpack and cc ttcp to build it.

I have observed similar happenings. I was told that the PCMCIA spec simply doesn't support the full 100Mbps data rate. I also noticed 'missed interrupt' errors showing up in the log when I used my 100bT card in my old P120 laptop. Performance has been better in my new(er) P266. -- Rick Green "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." -Benjamin Franklin
