[opensuse] Where does Yast/zypper store repos on my system?
Hello SuSe people, Planning on upgrading my 11.2 to 11.3 soon. Want to wipe the repos on my system so that 11.3 will install cleanly. Can't do it directly from 11.2 because at the present time I can't boot into it. (long story) but I can access all of the file systems. So where can I find them? Or do I even need to worry about it? /var/cache/zypp/packages... (you don't need to worry about it, if you are concerned, then as root 'zypper clean' ) -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. Oh, if you are talking about the actual repo definition files, then: /etc/zypp/repos.d -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. You have just experienced one competitive advantage that opensource have against propietary software, opensource barely sleeps ;) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

/etc/zypp/repos.d Are you sure 11.2 to 11.3 has more pluses than minuses for your hardware and needs? I've been on 11.0, and expect to upgrade to 11.2, not 11.3. The latter has KMS, and the fallout from that big architectural change still isn't close to done being cleaned up. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." No, I'm not sure at all. Just thinking I need to keep up. 11.2 with KDE4 was/is not satisfactory to me at all. I use 11.0 with KDE3 as my "main" OS I just keep trying the "new improved" versions and find them lacking. Hope springs eternal you know. (as is said) Take care, and always consider your advice. Yes, and my box is super sensitive to KMS black-magic. I just went to 11.3 on my older laptop (Radeon 9600) and 11.3 is working well without the fglrx driver. (temps OK [hotter than fglrx, but much cooler than prior attempts], performance is pretty good) On the up side graphics performance in 11.3 is much improved over 11.2 with the radeon driver. Unfortunately, my older laptop is the easier of the 2. My newer one (Radeon 1250) boots with KMS disabled in 2.6.34, (booted well and ran compiz well with KMS on 2.6.32, performance tanked in 2.6.33 -- but would still boot with KMS and start compiz, 2.6.35rc - will not boot at - ALL). So there are definitely bad things still to be worked out with KMS and newer kernels... It's one of those things where you feel like your only one update away from being left dead in the water :p -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. If your system doesn't boot correctly, you should not attempt an upgrade, I think. Anyway, yast will not confuse repos across versions. The place where they are saved you already know from other replies. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. Thanks for the advice Carlos, but I don't really have that much to lose. Wanted to do an upgrade to see if I could keep the somewhat configured KDE4 desktops. If it doesn't work I blow it away and do a fresh install, Would just have to do all of the configuration over again.
