I have been advised to use gecko-mediaplayer for viewing Windows Media video clips in preference to mplayer-plugin, because I have been unable to view clips from a specific website. To give it a try, I've installed gecko-mediaplayer, and it does appear in about:plugins. In Firefox's Preferences > Applications, I now need to specify the use of this new plugin for Windows Media files, but this option isn't offered to me. Presumably there has to be a way to do this.
