Hi :)
~ am unsure what you wish to know?
In the meantime I have found out of something. I fetched the definition files, but cannot find them in any directories. The ones I have seems to be too old: eurit:/ # f-prot / Virus scanning report - 22. October 2002 9:42 F-PROT 3.12b SIGN.DEF created 15. October 2002 SIGN2.DEF created 15. Yes I know, and its already been installed.
2) you run it as root
Yes.
3) the console root command is :
f-prot /home/user { if you just wish to scan your home directory
4) it takes about 8 seconds for f-prot to scan 180 mb of my home directory
5) it probably takes 4 minutes to scan whole system of 3,2 gig
6) there are frequent update of Virus definition files { abt weekly } .....................
Thanks for your kind reply.
best wishes

~ let's say you have f-prot installed in /usr/local/f-prot After downloading the 2 zip files with definitions, you unzip them , in, say, /tmp You should now have 3 new .DEF files Finally you copy the new .DEF files to /usr/local/f-prot { because the f-prot program may have a long & complicated name such as f-prot_xxx.xxx , it may save sweat to make a soft link to /usr/local/f-prot } -- best wishes ____________ sent on Linux ____________

Doesn't f-prot have an automated update system like antivir from H+BEDV. I was considering using it, however antivir updates nearly everyday automatically so f-prot could quickly go out of date. Adam On Tuesday 22 Oct 2002 8:23 am, tabanna wrote:

Thanks for the informatin I tried your "f-prot /home" and it failed so I tried "f-prot.sh /home" which worked and found a directory that I have some known MS viruses stored. It passed the rest of the files/directories. /home/n/ms-virus/Valve_Adjustment_R1200c.doc.pif Infection: W32/Sircam.worm@mm /home/n/ms-virus/StatFinalAnalysis.doc.bat Infection: W32/Sircam.worm@mm /home/n/ms-virus/joke.exe Infection: W32/Hybris.worm.D /home/n/ms-virus/litres.pif Infection: W32/Magistr.32768@mm /home/n/ms-virus/NETWORK_EQUIPMENT_COSTS..xls.pif Infection: W32/Sircam.worm@mm /home/n/ms-virus/citlogo6.gif.exe is a security risk or a "backdoor" program Correct! time was reported to be 0.31 - 73 de Donn Washburn __ " http://www.hal-pc.org/~dwash " Ham Callsign N5XWB / / __ __ __ __ __ __ __ 307 Savoy St. / /__ / / / \/ / / /_/ / \ \/ / Sugar Land, TX 77478 /_____/ /_/ /_/\__/ /_____/ /_/\_\ LL# 1.281.242.3256 a MSDOS Virus "Free Zone" OS Email: n5xwb@arrl.net Info: http://www.austinlug.org
