Hi all. Is anybody using a Wacom -- or similar -- tablet (preferrably one of the smaller ones, not the big professional beasts) with SuSE 8.1? I need to buy one, and I'd appreciate suggestions for which models are recognized, install cleanly, and "just work" with YaST2 and 8.1. I already had carpel tunnel pain, and then I fell off my bicycle (don't ask...) and sprained both wrists, so mice and trackballs are a constant pain, now. A stylus or pen feels much better, thus my urgent interest in Wacom (or another brand if there's a good, supported alternative). Suggestions? Experience? Thanks for your time. /kevin

I hope you're getting better :-) I have a Graphire (the small one) and I know Graphire2 behaves the same. If you just plug it, it should work as an USB mouse out-of-the-box. You need special configuration only if you want the rubber to act as a separate entity (e.g. for Gimp). Anyway, SaX2 in SuSE 8.0 and 8.1 has a special section to configure all that very quickly. Intuos should be work just as well, but I haven't tried it. If you're only looking for a mouse replacement, the Graphire2 is more than enough. It is the size of a mousepad. - -- Thibaut Cousin E-mail : cousin@in2p3.fr Web : http://clrwww.in2p3.fr -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.7 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE9x3VQv1vqsTa1E4oRArQpAKCjtR+GCkLX/ILL6LfJ2P44YSBTnACfWosq KfiXIekdncBRuF6LgjwM/ws= =gox4 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
Does someone have a clue how to get tablet working along ordinary mouse, so that I don't have to plug-in and out tablet, when I don't use it. On a normal desktop use I like my logitech mouse better and I use that but using gimp with intuos is of course better. If I leave intuos plugged in, mouse pointer goes mad and runs wildly around screen... P_p Thibaut Cousin wrote:

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 It has always been automatic for me, even back when my mouse was PS/2 while the tablet was USB (now both are USB so no problem because they share the same device /dev/input/mice). Remember what devices you must use: - - for a real mouse, /dev/psaux (PS/2) or /dev/input/mice (USB) - - the tablet can work with /dev/input/mice, but in this case the rubber, the pen and the mouse are mixed in one device (and you loose some funtionality) - - if you want the tablet to work as such, use /dev/input/eventx (where x is a number, usually 0 but it may be different if you have other USB devices) Sax2 configures all that in a single click in 8.1. In 8.0, download the new Sax2 from : ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/suse/i386/supplementary/X/XFree86/SaX2/suse80 It has a section for tablets that configures everything correctly except for the number "x" above (/dev/input/eventx). I can post the relevant part of my XF86config if you like. Another hint: usually, a mouse pointer going wild is the sign of a wrong protocol, usually using imps2 when only ps2 can work. You can use imps2 for the tablet mouse, but maybe your other mouse doesn't have a wheel? Le Mardi 5 Novembre 2002 06:42, p p a écrit :
