[opensuse] Linux-compatible desktops
Hello everyone, I am looking for PC's that are made for Linux (preferably, with emphasis on OpenSuSE) and certified as being Linux-compatible right out of the box. I found http://www.linuxcertified.com/ which does that for laptops, but I am also wondering if there is an equivalent for desktops. Thanks. Thanks Tony! I just followed the link you posted and the only machines with Ubuntu that I found there were a couple of laptops and a netbook. I am looking for desktops, though. Go to the bottom of the page. Big list of SuSE compatible machine vendors. Click on the manufacturer of your choice. For example, several Dell boxes listed. -- Tony Alfrey tonyalfrey@earthlink.net "I'd Rather Be Sailing" -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Boris. Another way to approach it would be go to the HCL and go to Main boards.
http://en.opensuse.org/HCL/Main_Boards This list has a lot of boards compatible with openSUSE. As an example my DX48BT2 Intel board. It is not listed under desktops since I had my system custom built. But you could find an vendor that uses one of the motherboards list. This board has worked with openSUSE 11.0 and 11.1, with KDE 4.2 I have had acouple of KDE issues but none were related to the motherboard. At one time HP offered opensuse based desktops, don't know if they still do. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

No, that's the Hardware Compatible List. What you do is that you select a brand and they'll tell you all of the models that work with Opensuse... Not very helpful when you're looking to buy one but helpful in other cases.... Thanks. Though this mostly seems to be about SLED/SLES as opposed to OpenSuSE. Boris. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes, there are....Dell and HP both have them, as well as some others. Desktops aren't as much of a problem as laptops. MOST Ethernet cards will work, video, etc. As long as you stick with nVidia or Intel for video, and Intel for Ethernet, all of the rest of the hardware should just work, no matter what you buy.
