Dear all, My new machine will have an ATI Sapphire HD 4730 video card on an ASUS P5Q-EM motherboard. Does anybody of you have some exprience with them (with openSUSE 11.1), especially with the video card? I did not find it in the hardware compatibily list. Albert Oszko

Albert, Since you have a newer model card, you should be fine. You will need to download the self-building (you have to do some work) driver package from the ati site: https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/ati-driver... installer-9-10-x86.x86_64.run Then just follow the instructions... or ... my cheat-sheet: http://www.3111skyline.com/download/linux/ati/ati_quick-reference -- David C. Hi, thank you for your hints. I am stiil working with transferring all things to the new machine I am especially struggling with the windows part. What I learned is that the update from the ATI repo (at least partly) freezes the system with complaints connected to Kwin. Regards, Albert

Make sure you have completely unloaded the radeon driver do a "lsmod" to check for anything radeon and remove it BEFORE you use your new fglrx driver. Generally if you are currently using the radeon driver. Just rmmod radeon before you modprobe -v fglrx (of course all of this would occur AFTER you have already built and installed the new rpm from the ATI site :p -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
