[opensuse] software.opensuse.org displaying in German?
Grrr... this is annoying... software.opensuse.org is displaying in German on me. I'm connecting from a German IP, but have my browser language preferences set to English. Anyone else see the "wrong" language? (ie a language other than the browser preference) Not only do I get the page all in German now (a language I cannot read), there is no apparent way to set things back to English. I've emailed the webmaster at opensuse.org about this... I dearly hope that someone hasn't done something really really stupid like.. dare I say it.. set up geolocation to "guess" the language of the user browsing to the site. Geolocation cannot get the language right... language settings should always base it on the browser string, not the geolocated IP :-( C. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

No, it doesn't affect me, I'm able to read both English and German. But I must admit that this is somewhat ugly.

When I connect to software.opensuse.org, the language displayed is German, but I'm located in Norway (both physically and my host IP) and use "US_en" as my browser language :-) Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686 (x86_64); en-US; rv:1.9.0.14) Gecko/2009090900 Firefox/3.0.14 And yes, you're right, there's no way to change the language manually to something else than German. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

And yes, you're right, there's no way to change the language manually to something else than German.
Well i am also facing the same problem. And i suppose theres nothing much to worry about. It must be a small technical problem(must be some scripts interchanged),And will be fixed. :)So its not about a single person ..:) Best, Shayon -- openSUSE Wiki Team Member http://en.opensuse.org/User:Wwarlock Website: http://www.shay0n.hpage.com Email: hkwarlock@gmail.com -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Phew :-) I was thinking it was me again. I have this knack for messing things up. Since others are seeing the same/similar, then it's likely to be fixed soon (I hope). I haven't had a chance to log into my US or UK proxies to check against the connecting IP - the proxies are so useful in getting around geolocation nonsense, and other region restrictions :-) C. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yea!! lets see what happens .As i am not quite sure that above mentioned reason is correct or not.But more or less it would be similar to it.And IMO openSUSE is in safe hands,so no worries of HACKS and all(mentioned in the previous mail).Till then just chill :) Best, Shayon -- openSUSE Wiki Team Member http://en.opensuse.org/User:Wwarlock Website: http://www.shay0n.hpage.com Email: hkwarlock@gmail.com -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

In the US, it comes up in English, but it switches to the url http://www.opensuse.org/en/ in German, it comes up http://www.opensuse.org/de/ so you can try changing the suffix to be language-specific And also there is a little language selector way down in the lower right corner of the page. -- Tony Alfrey tonyalfrey@earthlink.net "I'd Rather Be Sailing" -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

On mine it comes up with a mix of English and Spanish. Looks like someone fubared/hacked the website. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

We are currently working on i18n'ing the site for the upcoming release. Probably something got messed up while testing the new features, sorry for the confusion, we will fix this. But afaic the language is chosen by the accept header, and not by ip location. Sounds like a good idea :-) But please be sure to set language by browser string and not geolocation. Geolocation guesses incorrectly for travelers, expats etc, and can often get things wrong anyway - eg my employer is in Germany, but depending on the day/connection at the office, I can show up as being in Germany, Switzerland or the UK. Geolocation is the bane of my online life :-P C. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
