It a part of the kdebase3-SuSE-9.1 package. Run Yast -> Software Installation and search for it. -Ti

Or: pin suseplugger (or pin plugger) Will show which package it is in. -- Ken Schneider unix user since 1989 linux user since 1994 SuSE user since 1998 (5.2) * PLEASE only reply to the list *

Hmmm. I had thought that suseplugger asked "what new stuff does SuSE have?", whereas it was hotplugger that asked "what new stuff does my system have?" What *does* suseplugger do ? mikus

That's susewatcher.
What *does* suseplugger do ?
It looks for hot plugged USB devices or CD/DVD media insertion and launches an appropriate application when detected. -Ti

Since you kept good notes when you made this change to your system I will probably be seen as being redundent telling you that SuSEplugger is part of the "kdebase3-SuSE" package Apt told you to uninstall it as part of a (I suspect kde) upgrade because it is incompatable w/ (packaging of?) the newer kde version. This problem has been a recurring one ever since the first kdebase3-SuSE met the first kde upgrade, and apparently SuSE has no plans to keep this package in step w/ the rest of the kde packages. I'm surprised you recieved so many replies from people that hadn't seen or don't remember the numerous previous threads concerning this problem. Some people on the list have stated that you can safely install the kdebase3-SuSE package from the command line with the rpm --force option. Be warned though that after doing this apt-get (and YOU) will complain about conflicting packages each time you try to install new updates so you may have to uninstall and re-install the package each time you try to use these tools. Or.... you can add the line: Ignore {"kdebase3-SuSE"; }; to /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/apt.conf ie: // with "apt-config dump" all settings can be viewed Acquire::CDROM::Copy "true"; Debug { pkgRPMPM "false"; } RPM { // Hold (do not update) a list with pkgs: // Hold { "k_deflt"; "sane"; }; // Leave list empty to disable Fake-Provides { "" } Ignore {"kdebase3-SuSE"; }; Options { }; Install-Options ""; Erase-Options ""; Source { Build-Command "rpmbuild --rebuild"; }; } and apt will ignore kdebase3-Suse -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos
Is there a way to get equivalent Ignore {} functionality for those of us using YOU? cheers, James Patrick Shanahan wrote:

Please, trim your quotes. Yes, (partially), but it's a *bad* idea. --force WARNING, in *most* cases this is a bad idea and if you did not know about the "--force" parameter, you do not know enought about yast to use it. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos
