I did not read, nor did I "smell" that KDE will be dropped at some
from Ubuntu sprang KUbuntu, and I believe that, /if/ KDE where dropped, KSuse would not be far away (perhaps with a different name).
But to me it seems far more likely that Novell/SUSE would prefer to
support point. But prevent a
fork, and will therefore keep supporting KDE.
The installation process of 10.1 offered a choice of desktop: KDE, GNOME, or another. I liked that, and I hope SUSE continues to do that with successive versions.
As I indicated - based on the article and feedback here - there's no reason to believe otherwise. Interesting observation, though. The default icon set for the "system tray" icons appears to have moved from sharp KDE-like icons to more dull fuzzy gnome-like icons. I had to laugh today. I installed 10.1 on a test system (I'm writing a more thourough review than "mostly harmless.") and included all window managers. When I went into Gnome, the first thing I did was launch Firefox. It won't load. It gives me an error. I just kind of shook my head and moved on. :) -- kai
