It seems related to comment in dbus security update . *************** dbus-1 - dbus security update The dbus package used a too permissive configuration. Therefore intended access control for some services was not applied (CVE-2008-4311). The new configuration denies access by default. Some dbus services may break due to this setting and need an updated configuration as well. The updated DBus daemon now logs access violations via syslog. If
you see log entries about rejected messages of type "method_call"
during normal operation the application that caused it likely needs
an updated DBus policy. Please contact the application vendor in
this case.

I rebooted -- it worked.
Of course you do need to reboot. Saying the contrary is, at least, not fully true, but it is little known or recognized. Next time, run this: echo "COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE NODE NAME" lsof | grep -E 'RPMDELETE|;|path inode=' If you find hits, you have "things" that are using the old version of whatever was updated and need to be restarted. Sometimes that thing is so basic, or there are so many things, that you do have to reboot in order to really use the update. Worse, some "things" maybe using the old version, some the new. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. I should have included the smiley ';-)' after the question mark....
:-) I did the update yesterday, and I was surprised that neither yast nor zypper mention a needed reboot. More people may bump into your situation. By the way, the command I posted gives interesting results: nimrodel:~ # lsof | grep -E 'RPMDELETE|;|path inode=' lsof: WARNING: can't stat() fuse.gvfs-fuse-daemon file system /home/cer/.gvfs Output information may be incomplete. cupsd 3155 root mem REG 22,70 1349661 /lib/libdbus-1.so.3.4.0 (path inode=1349660) login 3879 root mem REG 22,70 1349661 /lib/libdbus-1.so.3.4.0 (path inode=1349660) login 3879 root mem REG 3,18 363885 /usr/lib/libck-connector.so.0.0.0 (path inode=360933) login 3879 root mem REG 22,70 1382415 /lib/security/pam_ck_connector.so (path inode=1381810) login 3881 root mem REG 22,70 1349661 /lib/libdbus-1.so.3.4.0 (path inode=1349660) ... login 3889 root mem REG 22,70 1382415 /lib/security/pam_ck_connector.so (path inode=1381810) gdm 8877 root mem REG 22,70 1349661 /lib/libdbus-1.so.3.4.0 (path inode=1349660) gnome-ses 9837 cer mem REG 22,70 1349661 /lib/libdbus-1.so.3.4.0 (path inode=1349660) ... and much more. It does indeed need a reboot. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
