Hi Gang, Being rusty technically, haven't used a sliderule in almost a half century, the best I can say is don't squabble. Technology is supposed to be fun! At least I made it that way working for a living in aerospace al alia. John J. Devine

Yes, well, totally off topic of course, but I am proud to say that one of my most prized posessions is the K & E slide rule I inherited from my father when he passed on. Can't do more than multiply and divide with it, but never mind. Is it possible to do hex math on a slide rule? <grin> have on on the shelf I purchased when in high school

Certainly, a slide rule just adds logrithims. Hex is a different root, 16 instead of 10 or e. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos

You mean a different base. You can still do logs & exponents in binary or any other base. I remember doing log & exponent base conversion, in my math classes, back when I was studying electrical engineering. I guess I should browse through my math text for a refresher, as soon as this <cough> dust cloud dissipates. ;-)

Wonderful stuff - takes me back to my days as a research student..........(groan, groan....) LOL David
I still have mine from high school. Works fine and doesn't crash! ;-) I used to do some trig on it, in electronics class. Glenn Holmer wrote:

I had a computer teacher who would do square roots in base 7 during those union meetings his friend would use a slide rule without markings. Seems he was old style Phi Beta Kapa. CWSIV
