getting distribution and release information
For anyone interested, I have tested the suggested (thanks to Robert Schiele) command "lsb_release -ir" on several distributions: SuSE 10.0 - provides distribution/release output Fedora Core 4 - provides distribution/release output Ubuntu 5.04 - provides distribution/release output Gentoo 2005.0 - not supported Mepis 3.3.2.test - not supported If anyone has any other distributions they could test this on and provide feedback, it would be appreciated. I receive a "command not found" when executing this command on my just
installed SuSE 10 (open source distro). I installed text-only, no
graphics environment. Should I install some optional LSB packages?
Should I move into a specific directory before executing the command??
Thank you,
Martin Cordova

Yes. You obviously need the lsb package to have a LSB compliant system.
Should I move into a specific directory before executing the command??

Hi Frank, my Debian 3.1 says: command not found... But it's not a "standard" installation. -- mdc
