Hello all, Just discovered that 7.1 gives me a beatiful boot prompt. Anyone knows were this thing lives? I checked the installed packages, but I didn't notice any obvious rpm's. It is part of the lilo package. In /etc/lilo.conf, the message= option tells lilo which picture to use. For some reason it did not come automatically here, so I tried playing with it myself. So far I have been able to get the picture to display, but the menu is complete gibberish. Please could someone send me the file pointed to by the message option in their lilo.conf? or tell me where I can find an example for calling mklilomsg? Regards Ole

I don't know if this will help, but my lilo.conf file has the following lines at the beginning. I doubt they are all relevant to your question, but this is obviously the section that does the menu on my machines both with clean SuSE 7.1 installs. The message file is a 65k non-text file in a format I don't know. I didn't make it, so I assume lilo did it for me (or it is just the background). boot = /dev/hda vga = normal read-only menu-scheme = Wg:kw:Wg:Wg lba32 prompt timeout = 80 message = /boot/message Hope this is useful. regards, Mark

The only help I've found for this is in the /usr/share/doc/packages/lilo/README.graphics. It says that you can use mklilomsg --help for the commands. The pictures have to be a certain size and color depth. -- Powered by SuSE 7.1, Kernel 2.4.2 KDE2.1.0 For a great linux portal try http://www.freezer-burn.org

Mount the first cdrom. Run /cdrom/suse/inst-sys/usr/lib/YaST2/bin/mk_lilo_message / (Yes! / is the argument to the script - you have to tell the script which directory that is your root-directory.) The picture that is used is /usr/share/lilo/suse_640x480.pcx, BTW, but that's all in the script. Regards Anders tisdagen den 3 april 2001 19:42 skrev Mike:
