[SLE] not able to mount umess device (IDE-to-USB box)
Hello. The good-old IDE-to-USB box I had works fine on Windows XP, but I cannot make it work in SuSE 10.1. The device is just tested on WinXP one minute ago, both read/write have no problem. After plugged, dmesg shows: usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 10 usb 2-1: new device found, idVendor=04ce, idProduct=0002 usb 2-1: new device strings: Mfr=1, Product=1, SerialNumber=0 usb 2-1: Product: ScanLogic USBIDE usb 2-1: Manufacturer: ScanLogic USBIDE usb 2-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice scsi3 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices usb-storage: device found at 10 usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning usb 2-1: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 10 usb 2-1: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 10 usb 2-1: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 10 usb 2-1: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 10 usb-storage: device scan complete Then, nothing happens. Check /dev/sd* shows there are no /dev/sd* device. Check scsi device as root # sg_scan -i (no result, this command quit with no output) Besides, there isn't /proc/bus/usb/devices # ls /proc/bus/usb/ (no result, this command quit with no output) So, what's the next thing to do to find a clue?

Hi Zhang Weiwu! I was hoping someone else would provide you with a good answer. I don't have a device like that, myself, but the thought occurred to me it might be a good idea to check under /media ... maybe it's being automounted but you haven't found the correct location yet? regards, Carl P.S: X--X Another dog treat ;-) -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

Ah, thank you for the kind suggestion. Actually I checked /media before I post this message. I also tested this device on FreeBSD today, FreeBSD produced some error message too, so I am afraid this device is simply anti-*nix The error message in dmesg from FreeBSD (I don't hope to make it work anymore, I past it here only for those who is interested or some guru who reach this article by google) Opened disk da0 -> 5 umass0: at uhub0 port 2 (addr 3) disconnected umass0: detached umass0: ScanLogic USBIDE ScanLogic USBIDE, rev 1.10/2.51, addr 3 umass0: Invalid CSW: tag 80 should be 1 umass0: Invalid CSW: tag 524376 should be 2 umass0: Invalid CSW: tag 524376 should be 3 umass0: Invalid CSW: tag 524376 should be 4 umass0: Invalid CSW: tag 524376 should be 5 umass0: Invalid CSW: tag 524376 should be 6 (da0:umass-sim0:0:0:0): got CAM status 0x4 (da0:umass-sim0:0:0:0): fatal error, failed to attach to device (da0:umass-sim0:0:0:0): lost device umass0: Invalid CSW: tag 524376 should be 7 umass0: Invalid CSW: tag 524376 should be 8 umass0: Invalid CSW: tag 524376 should be 9 umass0: Invalid CSW: tag 524376 should be 10 umass0: Invalid CSW: tag 524376 should be 11 (da0:umass-sim0:0:0:0): removing device entry
