With the help of a couple of people on this list I got Spamassassin (http://spamassassin.taint.org) working over the weekend. It really is quite astonishing. My home account is a Yahoo one, and I'm subscribed to several lists from it. Spam is a problem - I get about 75 emails a day, of which over half are junk. Since I put spamassassin in place the problem has completely gone away. It's correctly filtered out every single piece of spam I've received, with no false positives so far. Problem solved. :) It occurred to me that it's this sort of program which SuSE could be using to lift their distro head and shoulders above the others. If spamassassin became part of the standard package, imagine how good "filters out 99.9% of junk email" would look on the box. The top Linux distros (SuSE, RHL, Mandrake) are all much of a much these days. If SuSE are to continue claiming market share they need to raise the bar above the pretty desktops, decent installers and hardware compatibility claims which all distros make. I think Spamassassin is just such an opportunity. There, that's my Monday morning rant done... ;)
