[opensuse] screen powersave sometimes works, sometimes not
Hello list, I have enabled "use energy saving" for the screen in kde control center, and I have also enabled a screen saver. Screen saver always works as expected, but going to stand-by/turning off of the monitor only works sometimes and sometimes not. I wouldn't wonder if it would never work (then I'd think I didn't enable it correctly), but what I don't understand is, that halv the time when I leave my PC untouched the monitor goes to stand by and the other halv not. I can see no difference - it doesn't depend on whether windows are open or not... Where and what do I have to look to find out about possible reasons? I use openSuse 10.0, kde 3.5.6 "release 25.2". thanks for hints. il -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
Sounds like you have enables either suspend to RAM or Suspend to Disk as well as the screen saver. If you make these modifications via KDE control the suspend times will follow closely when you change the screen saver times. As to when suspend to Disk or Suspend to RAM does work that depends a lot on your PC. Yes I know ACPI IS a standard but we have not quite worked out Suspend to RAM for everyone. If your PC is relatively new a quick check in your BIOS should reveal various ACPI settings. In consultation with your handbook you may need to enable S3 for suspend to RAM to work - or it may never work. In fact you will be luck if suspend to disk works. You can have a look at http://en.opensuse.org/Category:Power_Management Good luck Scott I.L. wrote:
