My host name is "adsl-63-194-251-2.dsl.lsan03.pacbell.net" [a blatant ploy by PacBell to get me to cough up the $70 for a domain name if you ask me ;) ], but when sendmail sends out my mail it puts "@adsl-63-194-251-2.pacbell.net" in places like the from and message-id fields. How do I get sendmail to use the correct name? -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Using yast under System Administration > Change Configuration File or editing /etc/rc.config you would set FROM_HEADER=pacbell.net or whatever you wanted it to be. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Yep, done that. It works for the "From" header, but not for the "From:" or Message-id:" fields. IOW, if I put, FROM_HEADER="primenet.com" in /etc/rc.config, I get:
From jmgrant@primenet.com Thu Apr 6 00:10:15 2000 ... From: John Grant
Message-id: <20000406000455.A4660@adsl-63-194-251-2.pacbell.net>
When I send an email to myself. This is really annoying when I run into a MTA that does a reverse lookup based on either of these fields. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

IOW, if I put,

Message-id: <20000406000455.A4660@adsl-63-194-251-2.pacbell.net>
It just occurred to me to check if those two fields are created by mutt. Sure enough, adding the line: et hostname=primenet.com .. to my muttrc file IN ADDITION TO changing the FROM_HEADER in /etc/rc.config fixed everything. Sorry for any confusion. :) -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
