7.1 and Truetype Fonts
Hey everyone, It has slipped my mind on how to create a fonts.scale file after I add fonts to the directory. I just installed SuSE 7.1, and am wanting to add True Type fonts to it, but I don't remember how to create the correct files for it. Also, does SuSE 7.1 ship with TrueType fonts ready to go? It creates the index of: fonts, scale, alias and encodings within the fonts.dir file which is read by X. ab> to create the correct files for it. For truetype fonts you have to run ttmkfdir, not mkfontdir. I have gotten true type fonts recognized on my system. KDE's kfontmanager sees them with many point sizes, but netscape only sees them as 12 pt. Any ideas? _____________________ Christopher R. Carlen crcarl@inreach.com Linux 2.2.10

- Change to the directory containing your TrueType fonts - call 'ttmkfdir >fonts.dir' - cp fonts.dir fonts.scale - edit fonts.scale and delete the first line

Nope, it doesn't. Simply because there are no good (are well done, contain national characters) and free truetype fonts. And licensing fonts for inclusion is by far too expensive for a company like SuSE as we're talking here about sums between $100K an $1M. -- Penguins to save the dinosaurs -- Handelsblatt on Linux for S/390

Bug in Netscape :( Check the enable scaling check box and then enter the size you want. That's the only possible solution ATM. -- Penguins to save the dinosaurs -- Handelsblatt on Linux for S/390

Need to talk Steve Jobs into proving Apple is _really_ into open source and handing over a few TrueTypes... <g> -Tim ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R. Why delete the first line? (It appears to be just a number) Also, it seems you can simply do ttmkfdir -o fonts.scale mkfontdir The mkfontdir command incorporates the fonts.scale file into the fonts.dir file. What does X really look at? fonts.dir or fonts.scale? _____________________ Christopher R. Carlen crcarl@inreach.com Linux 2.2.16
