Unreal Tournament 2003 simply doesn't work...
Hi, After my several unsuccessful tries, now based on info from the web I managed to install UT2003 on SUSE Linux 10.0. (Yes, original German box, containing 3CDs, reg. code, etc.) I was extremely happy to see it on the harddisk, but running it as user (or even root) resulted the same error message: agika:~ # ut2003 C++/ Script class size mismatch History: Exiting due to error agika:~ # When running it not from console, but e.g. from K-menu resulted the splash of the game came up for few seconds, then disappeared... I'm very disappointed now, but didn't find any corresponding info on Google how to get the game up and running. Please, did anyone overcome this kind of annoying error?! Thanks, Pelibali

Try an upgrade of Unreal to at least v2225.
Thanks for your response. What do you think, should I remove UT2003 completely and then install again with the updated installer, or I should just download the patch and apply that to the existing installation?! Thank you, Pelibali

I'd try applying it to the current installation. PS: Or get UT2004! Works fine here... :) Good luck, pb

Games, myfavorite part of Linux, I have succesfully got a few of my alltime favorites running no Problemo, they include ut2003, ut2004, Doom, Doom3, Quake, quake3 arena, Black & White, Need for speed Underground, ... All the games have install scripts on there CD's or the websites, I know that quake and ut2003 the scripts are on the respective website. the others have the scripts on the last CD of the pack.
agika:~ # ut2003 C++/ Script class size mismatch
History:
Exiting due to error agika:~ #
This looks familiar and refers to a corupt script. cheers Chadley

Hi Chadley, I keep kind of putting off playing with 3d games on Linux, but having deleted the last Windoze installation on my machines a couple of years ago I ought to start - holiday season coming up, after all. If you had to nominate two or three websites that would provide most info for the *novice* Linux gamer, setting things up for the first time, which would they be? I realise the web is absolutely soaked in information, but most of what I've seen relies on a level of understanding I've yet to reach, and goes over my ancient head. Cheers Fergus

There are loads of resources for Linux gaming. http://www.transgaming.com for Cedega (commercial app) which allows you to install/play a lot of Windows games. http://www.happypenguin.org/ The Linux Game Tome - a catalog/listing of Linux native games. Thsi one has some excelent games that pop up on a regular basis. http://www.linuxgames.com/ Linux Games has soem good info and links http://www.tuxgames.com/ Tux Games has a list of commercial games for Linux. There's loads more. Personally I use Cedega from Transgaming so I can play some of my favourites like Morrowind. I also use The Linux Game Tome to keep up with Linux native stuff. I'm a beta tester for Linux Game Publishing (anyone can apply to be a beta tester by the way), http://www.linuxgamepublishing.com/ and there are some fairly good ports of older Windows games in the works - Gorky 17, and X2 for example C.

As I wrote earlier, I have the _original_ UT2003 CD-set and the Linux- installer really sits on the last one. If it anyway doesn't work, why the h*ll to put it there ;) Anyway, thanks for all of your opinions/tips, will come back after I managed to run the app. I'm new to linux-gaming, in fact had never a supported 3D video-card & now my girly does have it :) Best, Pelibali
