Hi all: I'm very happy to join suse-linux list :) and suse linux is a wonderfulproduction! Here i have a question: How to make yast2-packager/packagemanagercompletely works with rpm-4.0.4??Now it's ok to install rpm from yast2, butnot possible to show which rpm installed:(( After 3 days's hard work, i successfully build rpm-4.0.4 under suse linuxenterprise 8.0 and install it, to replace rpm-3.0.6(i'm puzzle why susestill use such old rpm tools??),and successfully convert the old rpmdatabase(db1 format) to newer(db3 format). Everything is ok except that in yast2 control center, i run package managerto show what rpms installed in the system but it shows none rpm installed!!!I think it deal to the different db format between rpm-3.0.6 and 4.0.4. How to solve this problem? And i try to rebuild yast2-packager, but failed,it need y2tool, but i can't find y2tool in Suse enterprise linux 8.0 andunitedlinux cdrom. what can i do?? I have built a lot of rpms inmandrake/redhat linux, now i want to switch to suse. but a lot of them wouldwork..:( Hamm.. p.s., I'm not native of german , nor english, please excuse me formy poor english :)perhaps i'm asking a stupid question here, but i reallyneed some help..Thanks a lot!!:) - Hzqbbc

Simple answer: Don't do that.
After 3 days's hard work, i successfully build rpm-4.0.4 under suse linuxenterprise 8.0 and install it, to replace rpm-3.0.6(i'm puzzle why susestill use such old rpm tools??),and successfully convert the old rpmdatabase(db1 format) to newer(db3 format).
Why would you want to do this? RPM 3.0.6 is forwards-compatible with RPM 4.x. I'd recommend rebuilding any src.rpms you have anyway. - From what I remember, RPM 4.x has some serious issues on some architectures that SuSE supports, so they went the stability route. I admin SuSE and Red Hat boxes and I haven't found RPM 4.x to be superior in any way. - -- James Oakley Engineering - SolutionInc Ltd. joakley@solutioninc.com http://www.solutioninc.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.7 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE+QSr/+FOexA3koIgRApqcAJ4o2W9tumaavgMsunmA/PJD/9SgpwCdGhl2 3P3Z6zD04B+KDdsJbkTWvV8= =s1eU -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
