[opensuse] CIFS errors
Hello, Going through the logs and found that a few days ago I started getting these errors from CIFS; Mar 31 17:44:10 server kernel: CIFS VFS: sends on sock ffff810054e62c80 stuck for 7 seconds Mar 31 17:44:10 server kernel: CIFS VFS: Error -11 sending data on socket to server Haven't made any changes on the target or source machines. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thank you, James -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

James, No! but I can confirm new CIFS error that I haven't had time to chase down yet. On my laptop they prevent drive unmounting on shutdown that is causing me grief. Here are a few snippets from my logs: Mar 19 18:10:50 alchemy kernel: CIFS VFS: server not responding Mar 19 18:10:50 alchemy kernel: CIFS VFS: server not responding Mar 19 18:10:50 alchemy kernel: CIFS VFS: No response to cmd 4 mid 1161 Mar 19 18:10:50 alchemy kernel: CIFS VFS: Send error in Close = -11 Mar 19 18:10:50 alchemy kernel: CIFS VFS: No response for cmd 50 mid 152 Mar 19 18:12:20 alchemy kernel: CIFS VFS: server not responding Mar 19 18:12:20 alchemy kernel: CIFS VFS: No response for cmd 50 mid 7641 Mar 31 02:06:30 alchemy kernel: CIFS VFS: server not responding Mar 31 02:06:30 alchemy kernel: CIFS VFS: No response for cmd 50 mid 36 Mar 31 02:07:30 alchemy kernel: CIFS VFS: server not responding Mar 31 02:07:30 alchemy kernel: CIFS VFS: No response for cmd 50 mid 25 Mar 31 02:08:30 alchemy kernel: CIFS VFS: server not responding Mar 31 02:08:30 alchemy kernel: CIFS VFS: No response for cmd 50 mid 1663 Strange stuff. Please follow the "Samba bug reporting and advanced debugging information" section of http://en.openSUSE.org/Samba The Bugs/Samba section include a "Debugging cifs vfs client" sub section. From your initial mail we don't know which openSUSE version nor which Linux kernel CIFS client you're using. 3.3.3 will be in the OSB network:samba:TESTING soon. And as 3.4.0 pre is on the way we'll soon switch TESTING to STABLE. Lars -- Lars Müller [ˈlaː(r)z ˈmʏlɐ] Samba Team SUSE Linux, Maxfeldstraße 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany

Lars, So far testing with Samba 3.3.2-2.1-2089-SUSE-SL10.3 on x86_64 looks promising. I have started/stopped the server 3 times thus far and no CIFS failure to unmount. I'm not saying that the problem is fixed because I could go for a few days without the hang, but thus far my last CIFS effors on the client were in syslog were before the install of 3.3.2: Mar 31 02:06:30 alchemy kernel: CIFS VFS: server not responding Mar 31 02:06:30 alchemy kernel: CIFS VFS: No response for cmd 50 mid 36 Mar 31 02:07:30 alchemy kernel: CIFS VFS: server not responding Mar 31 02:07:30 alchemy kernel: CIFS VFS: No response for cmd 50 mid 25 Mar 31 02:08:30 alchemy kernel: CIFS VFS: server not responding Mar 31 02:08:30 alchemy kernel: CIFS VFS: No response for cmd 50 mid 1663 Also, just in case I wanted to build 3.3.3 from the source and spec file, where can I get a copy of ldapsmb-1.34b.tar.bz2? -- David C. Who cares about 3.3.2? 3.3.3 is out since more than 24 hours and the packages are ready from network:samba:TESTING atm. Soon we'll move with 3.3 to network:samba:STABLE as 3.4 is on the way. Heads up!

Pfff. Read my mail. It's in Günther's home at http://samba.org/~gd/ldapsmb/ And 3.3.3 is even ready if I get the openSUSE Build Service status correctly. All you have to do is to download the network:samba:TESTING.repo file to /etc/zypp/repos.d/ As soon as network:samba:STABLE moves to 3.3.3 we'll also provide it with ctdb support. It's my plan to have this ready till the end of this week. BTW zypper rocks from the performance POV. I can't believe it having a working out of the box meta package management again with the green beast. And it is still useable on an old Pentium 1 133 MHz with openSUSE 11.1. Very well done zypper dudes. Lars -- Lars Müller [ˈlaː(r)z ˈmʏlɐ] Samba Team SUSE Linux, Maxfeldstraße 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany
