Re: [SLE] Can't install OpenOffice using apt/synaptic
Quoting http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-linux-e/2004-Jan/1988.html :
When I try to install Open Office with synaptic, the program just closes.
When I try to install it from a shell, I get ...
The following packages have unmet dependencies: OpenOffice_org: Depends: libjawt.so but it is not installable E: Broken packages
See
http://www.oxixares.com/rpms/SuSE_9.0/java2_ftpinstalls/README
This explanation is very useful if you intend to install the SDK but what in case you just want the JRE? Any suggestion? Patrick

In fact, it seems that it is on purpose that this library is not in the "provides" list (quoting http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/5006959.html, login required):
The libjawt.so, and several other libraries provided by the SDK/JRE are not part of the Java public interface. For the few internal clients that need access to these, the best way to assure they are there is to add "Requires: j2re" to your RPM specification.
If I understand it well, it means the OpenOffice package should be fixed, not the JRE package. Tell me if I am wrong! Patrick P.S.: The Packager of OpenOffice_org-1.1-46.pm.0.i586.rpm is in Bcc: of this mail.
