[opensuse] USB printer detection fails in Suse 11
Hi, I can't get my printer working (a Samsung SCX4200), which I previously successfully attached to a Suse 10.1 installation, by using the manufacturer's "Unified Linux Driver". In Suse 11 the printer is successfully listed with a "hwinfo --printers" or "yast2 printer" as attached USB device. On the contrary, neither yast/cups, nor the Samsung driver can actually communicate with the printer, so the installation finally fails for obscure reasons. Furthermore, the yast printer set-up has been triggered only once automatically, when connecting it for the first time after installation. After uninstalling the Samsung driver and also reinstalling cups/yast related packages together with browsing related log- and configuration files I really have no idea why the printer communication fails. Maybe someone can help me at least with an explanation how the USB printer autodetection/-configuration should work in detail, to figure out what is broken there? Hi again, after reading some related posts I "fixed" the problem by installing the appropriate PPD-file via http://localhost:631 and following manually copied the required CUPS filter files to "/usr/lib/cups/filter" Andreas Andreas Kemper schrieb:
