[opensuse] Problems with openSUSE updater?
Hi listmates, I'm curious to know if there are problems with the openSUSE updater from KDE 3.5 on openSUSE 11. For at least two weeks, it has not shown updates regularly. When I manually tell it to check for updates, it says there are none. However, when I start Yast2 online updates, I can see for instance that Mozilla Firefox is available in version 3.0.1-7.2-i586, while I have 3.0.1-7.1-i586 installed. The newer version is from the openSUSE build service, from the Mozilla repo. My question is, how come the openSUSE updater doesn't show this update? Or other available updates, like k3b, amaroK, etc.? Any thoughts? As a disclaimer, I don't use KDE or it's updater, so I'm basically
guessing here, but my guess would be that you have '3rd Party Updates'
turned off. Check your preferences to see if there's a check box for
that.
What's happening is that the updater probably only checks for updates
from the official openSUSE update repo, but YaST is checking updates to
applications from all available repositories that you've subscribed to.
However, the openSUSE Updater should have an option to check all repos
(as I mentioned above)

Hi Kevin, Yes, you were partly correct. Thanks for helping me there! I didn't have the box "Show available upgrades when backend provides them (for experts only)" checked. Now I have this one checked and the updater lists 20 updates. Now the problem is: it doesn't update. I select all updates, click install, enter my root password and then...nothing happens. Guess now I need to solve that one... :-) Thanks, Joop ------------------------------------------------------------ Dit bericht is gescand op virussen en andere gevaarlijke inhoud door MailScanner en lijkt schoon te zijn. There is probably some dependency resolution issue. It has happened to me before. Looks like you have to update through yast or zypper once so you can answer the dependency resolution questions, afterwards you should be fine. Hi Matthias, Yes, there is. A beauty of a dependency conflict between xine-lib 1.1.12-8.1-i586 from the OSS repo and lib-xine 1.1.15.pm.1-586 and lib-xine 1.1.15.pm.1-686 from the Packman repo. Packman has a new version of amaroK available, which wants lib-xine 1.1.15.pm.1-586 but bites with xine-lib from the OSS repo. Yast won't let me resolve this, even if I tell it to change the vendor from OSS repo to Packman. It keeps telling me it can't satisfy the dependency for lib-xine 1.1.15.pm.1-586. Ah well, I'll sort it out somehow. I guess it is a problem where it just ignores you input and repeats the question.

Remove manually OSS lib-xine, and it will let you install Packman version. I guess it is worth bug report, but since I found, trough trial and error, way around I didn't investigate further is it package error, or libzypp. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I found it like you. I got frustrated and finally just de-installed lib-xine. Then everything from packman installed. -- Russ Linux register user 441463 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Where exactly is "lib-xine" found/located? Would be pleased if you could provide the URL showing this file. In Yast, in Software Management, search for xine. You should see a number of things, including a package called xine-lib. Please see the message I replied to, and the question I asked: "where is 'lib-xine' found/located?" You mention "xine-lib" - which is NOT what is being discussed. Then take a look at packman. Better yet, here is the link. http://packman.links2linux.org/package/xine-lib Then look at the list of files. It really isn't that hard. If the suse package is called xine-lib, what on earth is lib-xine? I interpreted your inability to find the package to be partly because you were looking with the incorrect name. Possible, no? Just trying to help. Been there. One can only assume that you are looking for the xine libraries for suse. They are to be found in a package called xine-lib from SUSE. Packman, OTOH, seems to name the RPMS with the xine libraries with names starting with 'libxine1'. If you are not finding it via yast, you can also try a search at http://packages.opensuse-community.org/ But I do not think you will find anything called lib-xine... -- Roger Oberholtzer OPQ Systems / Ramböll RST Ramböll Sverige AB Kapellgränd 7 P.O. *I* am not looking for a package called "lib-xine". Someone was told to delete an RPM with this name and I was merely asking where this RPM was located.

I, too, have a pretty good idea that I will not be able to find a file called "lib-xine" - but one person stated to delete the RPM/file called "lib-xine" and another replied that he has deleted it then that RPM/file must, therefore, exist, and I was simply asking where it was located. If you look hard you will find some remnants after it was removed. Did force that I have to apply broke the name or something else I don't know ;-) Have a fun. Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I did that, and all seems to be well. Maybe it is worth a bug report, yes. Seems like the dependencies are not resolved properly somehow. However, since it is solved like this, I don't feel like filing a bug report. Thanks for the comments!
