konqueror and samba browsing
Hi I browse a w98 client from our SuSE 7.3 server using smb://compuer_name. No problems. But I can't drop files from the server to the same client. It says access denied. Is it something to do with permissions? Thanks, Steve.
On the linux side (where samba is running) you can run smbpasswd to create a samba passwd file. In /etc/smb.conf you can include the option encrypt passwords = yes I think in win98 they changed from using cleartext passwords to encrypted passwords. You then login to win98 with the password you specified with the user using smbpasswd. I would suggest reading the manual pages for smb.conf and smbpasswd. I have had the same problems win XP, but have not had time to check what the problems are. I know this works with win98. scc writes:
