Hi, After installing 8.2 this weekend here is a small report: - Installation goes smoothly as in 8.1. I was a little disappointed that my HSF modem was not detected automatically, but the package is on the DVD. - KDE 3.1 looks great! Really, the combination of the new X server with KDE looks beatiful. At last, the fonts are GOOD!!! The SuSE default theme looks very fine. - I'm still not happy with KMail, so I wanted Mozilla Mail. But they didn't include 1.3. That you must do yourself... - What can I say about YaST Online Update? Finally, it works! It is fast, it is verbose (at least you have a progress indicator). So far so good. I have experienced some hangs (twice) with KInternet this weekend, but I suppose this is caused by my modem. The drivers are on the DVD, but it is still a beta package :-( But overall, it's great! Now I can finally leave winblows. I think the font thing is a major boost for linux on the desktop...

But can you SAFELY upgrade to 8.2 from 8.1 without messing things up? For example, I've installed somethings that didn't come from SuSE rpms etc. Did you install from scratch?

There could be dependency issues though, libraries and so on. Check with you vendor first I suggest, if it's production.

Hi, Berge, Harry ten wrote: > - What can I say about YaST Online Update? Finally, it works! It is fast, > it is verbose (at least you have a progress indicator). Two issues notable: - New NFS Installation source installed patches, but when I chose ftp.suse.com the same patches were loaded again. (???) - The online_update cronjob notifies by mail, good ! But I had the same mail for 5 days now. Means I have to manual checking again. :-( Anyone seen these/worked around these ? Regards Dan

Check ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/mozilla, I know a colleague of mine was working on 1.3 packages. Philipp -- Philipp Thomas work: pthomas@suse.de private: pth@t-link.de
