Installing SuSE 9.3 from USB DVD drive
Hi all, I am trying to install SuSE 9.3 on a HP Proliant DL360. It only has a CD ROM and no IDE connectors so I cannot add an IDE DVD ROM. The machine has a Xeon 3.4GHz processor so I want to install the 64bit version and must use a USB DVD drive to do this. Every time I try to install, it goes to the Installation setting screen and then tells me “No source found at ‘cd:///;devices=/dev/hdc,/dev/hdd,/dev/sr0’.” The USB DVD drive is /dev/sr0. The system booted from the USB DVD drive. Doing an installation media check (using this same USB DVD drive on the same machine) confirms that the DVD has no issues. It also loads the USB Mass storage device driver. We had the 32bit version of SuSE 9.1 installed on this machine and thought this might be the cause. We then removed the partitions using the expert options in the partitioning setup. Any ideas on how I can get the 64 bit version of SuSE 9.3 installed? http://blog.mecworks.com/articles/2005/10/15/upgrade-to-suse-10-installing-f rom-a-local-partition/ Thanks Marc. I could use that as a base to get the system installed. I now have another issue, in that the machine cannot boot from the hard disk. When I boot from the USB DVD it and select boot from hard drive it works fine, but without this I get a DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER message. I have gone into yast and reconfigured the boot loader with default settings (tried LILO and GRUB). I told it the rewrite the MBR and even tried the different partitions. I have a 100M EXT2 partition mounted to /boot. Any suggestions? Albert -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. In trying to fix this, I have now gone and deleted to /boot partition. I then recreated it and setup the boot loader again using yast. Now I cannot boot the hard drive at all - even when using the "Boot installed system" option on the DVD boot menu. When booting the Rescue system on the DVD I mount /dev/hda1 (which is the boot partition). It is empty. Albert -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus.
