Changing resolution that's used during booting
How do I change the resolution that's used during booting (when the progress bar is displayed, or F2 for details). I have changed vga=0x318 in grub, but the nice SUSE blue background is lost after the kernel has loaded and init is running. Thanks.

One of the parameters of mkinitrd is "-s size", but it's not clear what the precise format of "size" is, and there's no manpage for mkinitrd. Do you know of any more detailed information? Paul Abrahams

0x318 is 1024x768, so your command would be: mkinitrd -s 1024x768 You need to make sure the Grub setting and your initrd settings are the same, as I don't believe you can arbritarily set one different from the other, else you might not boot. I'm trying to figure that one out myself, but I do have some pointers. Changing the VGA value is the first part of the job; the second is setting up the bootsplash screen. You'll need to have the bootsplash package installed and use the splash program to actually install the correct screen at the correct resolution. The VESA-related messages near the beginning of /var/ log/boot.msg will help you see what is happening. Also check out the framebuffer howto. The answer to this question surely belongs in a FAQ and in an article in the SuSE database. Many have puzzled over it and the answer involved several somewhat obscure software components.
