[opensuse] Store in a box?
Hi all, Can anyone suggest software I could buy or download to build a online store? I want to build a site to sell stamps, it needs to be able to show photos of the new stamps and have a way to sell them. I need, at least, to be able to use paypal. I would like it to work on Linux, but if need-be I'm willing to use Windows 7. Any ideas? Thanks! Go with a hosting service that provides something like CMS Made Easy, Joomla, Drupal etc. All (most?) have shopping cart plug-in capabilities (for example Virtuemart for Joomla)... and the monthly cost isn't that high. For example Siteground (web host I've dealt with in the past who provide a free install of Virtuemart with their Joomla hosting) has pretty much everything you'd need to get started in their services. Add a custom (if you want) theme to your selected CMS and you're off and running. All you need to worry about is the content (they take care of the rest). All servers run on Linux. I think you can get Windows servers, but that usually comes at a premium price since supporting Windows is usually a lot more hassle than Linux webservers. If you want to host it yourself on your own webserver, it's pretty easy to do so... the various CMS webserver tools are open source and you can easily install on an openSUSE LAMP setup (eg Joomla and Virtuemart are both open source). The trade off is it's up to you to maintain the server, and you've got to have either a static IP to point the name server at (for your domain name) or use a service like DynDNS to provide dynamic IP mapping. A host service provides all this for you. C. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
