I am looking for tools that will send periodic connections out to specific services on a network, and when those services do not answer, a call will be put out to the correct resource to fix it. Maybe with a small log of info so they know where to start. I found tools for MS. But honestly, I don't want to spend the money for a license for an MS product and the product that the people are selling. Something like watchdog for linux? Anyone know of something like that? Thanks in advance. Michael, You might try SWATCH Latest version: ftp://ftp.stanford.edu/general/security-tools/swatch I'm not sure if it is capable of monitoring services accross a network, it will monitor services on an individual machine. George

Netsaint. It's in SuSE 7.3 in the n3 directory. It works quite well and supports cellular text messaging. - -- James Oakley Engineering - SolutionInc Ltd. joakley@solutioninc.com http://www.solutioninc.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE8re5A+FOexA3koIgRAoTkAKCbo8SWw0NdJqXGuHn9xPNLWE1IIgCfc7jb RynhxFMzOlCzVecIaQbEP40= =TGy0 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

You may try mon (http://www.kernel.org/software/mon/) It's essentially just one Perl script with a configuration file. Pretty easy to set up and run. No client software (like in netsaint) required. -Kastus
