How to get Applixware from "Office suite 99" going under Suse 7.0
Fellow Suse'rs! Before Christmas I installed v 7.0. No special problems, but having had little need for it so far, I am now having problems installing Applixware from the "Office suite 99". That is, yast installs it, but No icons where installed in my KDE desktops, either v 1.1 or 2.01 (tha lst probably not much of a surprice!). When I issue the following command: "applixware" in an x-term it spits out this: "/usr/X11R6/bin/applixware: /opt/applix/applix: No such file or directory" So what have I done wrong, is it possible (any library issues?)? Or must I uppgrade Applix to something newer (this being v 4.4.1 I think!). Hi Lars: I would advise abandoning Applix. I had version 5.0 installed in SuSE 7.0 and it was unstable. It relies on older GTK+ libraries and during the install of Applix it asks whether you wish to "upgrade" to the newer GTK+ libraries. A dialog also warns that it will break dependecies with existing installed programmes. I did not install the Applix GTK+ libraries and as a result Applix's preformance was less than satisfactory. I use Abiword, which can read and send Microsoft compatible documents, or I use Kword. If you install the KDE 2.0.1 or 2.1 updates from the SuSE site Kword should be quite satisfactory. Abiword should be installed on your SuSE box. If not, it is on the 7.0 CD's. On Monday 05 March 2001 15:55, you wrote:

I've been pretty happy with Applixware 4.4.2 on SuSE 6.4. Now upgraded to 7.1 and haven't tried Applixware yet. 4.4.2 uses Applix proprietory libraries and in this respect IMHO is better than 5.0. At least it doesn't ask you to downgrade to ``newer'' GTK+ libraries. Judging by the traffic on applixware list, the product is dying. I'm really sorry for that. -Kastus On Mon, Mar 05, 2001 at 05:44:32PM -0600, Jonathan Drews wrote:
