[opensuse] VirtualBox update problem
After last week's "zypper up" update of VirtualBox (7/21), neither of my Windows guests will load (XP & 7). Linux 11.3 is the host. Error messsage: Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908) The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. Please reinstall the kernel module by executing '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' as root. Users of Ubuntu, Fedora or Mandriva should install the DKMS package first. This package keeps track of Linux kernel changes and recompiles the vboxdrv kernel module if necessary. --- Running /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup produces: Recompiling VirtualBox vboxadd kernel module, NOT. It has been packaged. done So nothing happens. Rebooting has no effect. Since the updates were not a new version, I cannot roll back to the previous version. Suggestions? Open YaST and start "Software Management". Click on the "Search" tab and search for Virtual. Click on the package for VirtualBox and then the versions tab. There you can select a previous version to install. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

There has to be at least the installed version. If there are no previous versions you can download one from: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Virtualization:/openSUSE11.3/openS... Or even add this as a repo and select/install a previous version. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998

Regards,
now solved: Following the advice of another post, I installed the version from Oracle rather than BuildSuse. It returned an error of not being able to find the kernel source, which, it turns out was not installed (this was at least part of the issue in the fourm post you suggested). After installing that, and rebuilding, all works. Thanks to one and all! dao -- Fr David Ousley davidousley@verizon.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
