i don't think this will have a big impact on Suse Linux as we know it... i think it just means that Novell will offer an Enterprise Linux (based on Suse Linux) which will be pretty lean when it comes to package offerings. But i believe Suse will continue to develop and release Suse Linux as we know it.

I hope you are correct. But on what do you base your belief ? Do you have info in Australia that is not commonly available in Germany and the US? Just thinking about it (with absolutely NO info to base it on) I suspect Novell is building its replacement for Netware. -- _____________________________________ John Andersen

i have no more information than any of you... but from what we've seen so far from Novell it seems that they are trying hard not to step on anyone's toes and it wouldn't really make sense for them to get rid of Suse Linux and just offer their Novell LInux or whatever they're gonna call it. Suse Linux is making money, so why not offer them both?

I merely pointed out that Mr. Meyer posted in this thread with the scoop on what the register article was about, thus negating the need for idle speculation and guess work, since he does have "info to base it on"

If I remember correctly, the article talked about a slimmed down version for corporate deployment, thereby easing the burden on IT departments by not having to support/upgrade the wide range of apps that ship with the Pro version. So as long as they leave Pro alone, I'll be happy. :) Mike

I quite agree, it's business as usual and it seems to make sense, the Enterprise desktop market is an important one, Sun being the only significant player there at present. Chupin's message was a simple direction to the Register, as you can see below, since I have _not_ cut the quotes. So if you follow that up, without reference--which I did not have-- to Meyer's message, it surely looked like they were going to "streamline" _all_ of the SuSE product. /
