-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, For amsn users, v 0.90 has been released. I've made rpms for SuSE 8.2 and 9.0. NOTE: The users who installed my old '0.90beta' packages need to update them with --force option, otherwise rpm thinks the new version is older than the installed one, it was my fault :(. You can download them at this (slow) site: http://www.oxixares.com/rpms/SuSE_8.2/ http://www.oxixares.com/rpms/SuSE_9.0/ ftp://ftp.oxixares.com/pub/rpms/SuSE_8.2/ ftp://ftp.oxixares.com/pub/rpms/SuSE_9.0/ Apt users need to update with --reinstall too. 'amsn' package also includes all the skins and extras i.e. the 'amsn-artwork'. Enjoy. Guillermo - -- Guillermo Ballester Valor gbv@oxixares.com Ogijares, Granada SPAIN Linux user #117181. --oldpackage is better. Never use the --force

This is from `man rpm` --force Same as using --replacepkgs, --replacefiles, and --oldpackage. Is really any difference?. Yes, using --force blindly as the first option when installing will hide any potential problems with the package, such as overwriting files from other packages. If you've tried the other options and thoroughly investigated any problems that occur, and feel confident that it won't cause any problems, then --force might be used as a shorthand for those options But if you have to use --force, the real solution is to rebuild the package. If you have to use --force, the package is broken Too many problem reports start with "I don't know what happened, I just installed this package with rpm -Uvh --force and now my system is screwed. linux really sucks etc etc etc" --force needs to be removed from rpm

OK, I understood. Well, in the case of amsn package --oldpackage _is_ the option ;). Thanks for your clarification. What option should I use if I've currently got v.83? I'm all confused now and my head hurts. ;-) Tom -- Tom Nielsen Neuro Logic Systems 805.389.5435 x18 www.neuro-logic.com

For v 0.83 use the usual options '-Uvh', no problem with it. The problem was for v 0.90beta. Guillermo

Guillermo RPM 4 has options that won't run the risk of kludging you database and dependencies that using "--force" might.
- --replacepkgs, --replacefiles, or the one that most likely serves you're needs... "--oldpackage". I used to use force all the time. Anders kept warning me about it... of course I had to learn the hard way. Not fun! HTH, Curtis. - -- Spammers Beware: Tresspassers will be shot, survivors will be shot again!
