SuSE win32 codecs rpm is available here: http://packman.links2linux.org/?action=046 Don't know what you mean by 'setting everything up. If you have a program installed that can use the codecs, install the rpm should be all you need. If you need an app to use the codecs, I would suggest mplayer available here: http://packman.links2linux.org/?action=128 note the additionally needed packages note at the bottom of that page. You need libdvdnav, libdvdread and libdvdcss installed in order to past the encryption, and to use the menus. Sunny

As an aside to this thread; I've installed the codecs from packman. several weeks ago. Tonight though, I noticed that in my /usr/src/packages files, that there is a w32codec rpm sitting there as well as the SOURCES and SPECS. Where did these come from? I am positive it wasn't an .src file. Bob S.

Don't know about that exact error, but have you got libdvdcss installed? And also, I think the xine that comes with suse is crippled or something. Never had any luck with it. I've always installed the xine stuff from packman. I have ALL the files from packman, EXCEPT for libdvdcss.rpm. Apparently, the German anti-competive control freak law kicked in, and it's no longer available. It was so easy I've forgotten how it goes... ;P There's a link somewhere on Packman's site, which points to a perl script somewhere else, which downloads/compiles/makes an rpm, that you can then install. Get the script, run as root, find the rpm, install, run xine, watch movies. HTH /Jon -- YMMV

You just need to install libdvdcss, follow the link from Pacman it's simple to compile and install even on an Athlon 64. Then install the latest xinelib rpm from pacman. You don't need to update the Xine GUI it works just fine when you update xinelib. I've successfully done this on 4 boxes including an Athlon 64, although at the time pacman didn't have the 64bit RPMs I think he now has them for download. You may also want to update the Kaffeine GUI as this will then play DVDs it's also a good idea to install the win32codecs this will play wmv files up to V8 not 9 and also Quicktime movies in both Xine and Kaffeine. Easy on that! Don't throw stones at a German code packager, when those who began with all that shit have been RIAA and MPIAA. With regard to libdvdcss, it's a small enough library and can be easily compiled and installed from source. Get it from http://developers.videolan.org/libdvdcss/. Regards,

But there are instructions on where to download the packages ( one from packman and a link to the other) and how to compile the package. Use apt-get and enable packman and packman-i686 in the repository. apt-get install w32codec-all, version 20050115-0.pm.0. Or, you could look at ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/9.1-i386/RPMS.packman/w32codec-all-20050115-0.pm.0.i386.rpm but, trying to install this one package will probably cause dependency problems. I use packman stuff any where it is available for CD, DVD, anything audio and anything video. I don't know who the guy is, but he does really great work.
