During the process of setting up X-CD-Roast I lost my internet service as
user "mauede". Luckily I can still use it as I login as "root".
Basically the "plug" applet, that used to be in the bottom menu bar, used
to start the dial-up connection, has disappeared. I even tried to resume
the plug applet by making Yast2 rescan my modem line (just a dial-up
connection) but this was useless. I tried to start KInternet manually
(from a command line) but the system answered that it was already running
... However the connection with the campus server "artsci.wustl.edu"
cannot be establishes if I login as user "mauede".
I'm attaching a previous e-mail I sent to a kind gentleman who is trying
to help me out with the X-CD-Roast setting. In this old e_mail I have
clearly explained which actions determined my current trouble.
Thank you in advance for your attention.

Subject: DESPERATE !!!
I succeded at starting all StarOffice6.0 programsfrom the taskbar ("it
pops up by clicking on the "K" applet located in the bottom meny bar)
I make the group change as suggested but two things happened:
1. X-CD-Roast CD-Read operation failed as it could not locate the
CD-Reader. Why ? During the Setup phase it recognized my drive as CD-RW
etc ...
Moreover, whenever I start X-CD-Roast it tells me it cannot find the
set-up file and suggestes me to go back to "setup". It then presents me
with the X-CD-Roast window containing "Setup" button ...
I swear I saved the configuration before leaving the setup session ...
2.The KInternet applet (the "plug" which is opened when
disconnected and coupled to another symmetrical plug when the
connection is active) disappeared from the bottom menu bar.
As a consequence I'm cut off when I logon as user "mauede" ... I simply
lost the Internet service.
Luckily if I login as "root" then KInternet plug is there and when I
left-click on it I can hear the typical modem noise and in a couple of
seconds the connection to the server campus "artsci.wustl.edu"
starts regularly. This is why I can now talk to you .. thanks Godness ...
I found where the system has all the diferent "plug" icons.
I dragged and dropped one such icon on my DeskTop and associated with the
pathname for the executable "kinternet". When I clicked on it a system
message notified me that "kinternet" was already running. Then I tried
to reactivate the internet service through the taskbar menu.
This time the system notified me that the connection could not be
established as "ssppm" (something like that) was not running ... is this
a module which is part of the TCP/IP protocol ??? I do not know how to
start it !
I'll be waiting for your help at this point ....
THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE.
Regards,
Maura
