Hello, I cannot seem to find how to keep copies of rpm packages downloaded by Yast. I know this used to be configurable, has it gone irrevocably? I want to save them in case I rubbish my current system Geoff

Make sure that the box for Remove Source Packages after update is not ticked (bottom of screen when the patches are actually being downloaded). The patches are in /var/lib/YaST2/you/mnt/i386/update/10.0/rpm/i576 and noarch. You need to be root to copy them to another place. Cheers. -- Don't argue with an idiot, people may not see the difference.

I should have said that this is when using OSS 10.0. There's no sign of the checkbox on any screen I see. Geoff

This applies only to YOU (YaST Online Update) and the screen that appears after you confirm the download and installation of new updates. At the bottom left, below the progress indicator bar, is a check box labelled "Remove Source Packages after Update." When checked, this tells YOU to remove the downloaded package files after the update is complete (don't let the phrasing confuse you, these are not source files in the usual sense, they're the sources of the update contents). It's setting takes effect when you confirm the completion of the package installation and go on to the last screen, where the SuSEconfig "Writing the System Configuration" output / progress is displayed.

Nope, I've tried downloading small packages and searching each screen for it but there's still no sign of a checkbox anywhere! And the change I made using /etc/sysconfig didn't change anything either! Oh well... Geoff

Sorry for being dense, and not reading your advice properly. I was trying to save rpms from a packman "installation source" Now I know where I went wrong. Thanks Randall Geoff

Whoops, too quick off the mark - I've found the toggle. It can be changed using the /etc/sysconfig editor, and is under System->Yast2->OnlineUpdate Geoff
