How do I mount a (usb) TDK UniFi Audio Player ?
I have a TDK MP3 player now and I am trying to figure out how to mount this on my all SCSI system. Since the usual device map is /dev/sda1 and this device is already used by one of my SCSI disks, what is the best way to figure out this ? In the KDE usbviewerI have this: TDK UniFi Audio Player Manufacturer: TDK UniFi Speed: 12Mb/s (full) USB Version: 1.10 Device Class: 00(>ifc ) Device Subclass: 00 Device Protocol: 00 Maximum Default Endpoint Size: 8 Number of Configurations: 1 Vendor Id: 2735 Product Id: 0091 Revision Number: 1.00 Config Number: 1 Number of Interfaces: 1 Attributes: c0 MaxPower Needed: 20mA Interface Number: 0 Name: (none) Alternate Number: 0 Class: ff(vend.) The driver will use the next unallocated SCSI device. After you plug the player in, wait a short moment and then do a "cat /proc/scsi/scsi". Your player should show up in the list as a "direct-access" device. Count down from the top, starting from 'a', skipping any non-direct-access devices, then you will be able to tell which device it is. E.g., if your player is the third direct-access device, then it will be /dev/sdc. -Ti -- Ti Kan http://www.amb.org/ti Vorsprung durch Technik

It would appear that your player has not been registered as a SCSI device. Maybe your player is not being recognized by the driver. Have a look in your /var/log/messages for a clue? -Ti -- Ti Kan http://www.amb.org/ti Vorsprung durch Technik

I think the address is simply the USB port number. At any rate that is not important. What's missing from your log file is the registration as a simulated SCSI device. I don't have any experience with the TDK player you have (i.e., whether it appears as a standard USB mass storage device), but here is an example relevant lines in my /var/log/messages of what happens when I insert my Lexar USB 256MB jump drive: --------X snip X-------- Dec 25 23:34:21 obelisk kernel: usb 4-3: new high speed USB device using address 4 Dec 25 23:34:21 obelisk kernel: usb 4-3: Product: JumpDrive 2.0 Pro Dec 25 23:34:21 obelisk kernel: usb 4-3: Manufacturer: LEXAR MEDIA Dec 25 23:34:21 obelisk kernel: usb 4-3: SerialNumber: LM3000000030310 Dec 25 23:34:21 obelisk kernel: scsi2 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices Dec 25 23:34:21 obelisk /etc/hotplug/usb.agent[31906]: need a device for this command Dec 25 23:34:21 obelisk kernel: Vendor: LEXAR Model: ATA FLASH Rev: V1.0 Dec 25 23:34:21 obelisk kernel: Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02 Dec 25 23:34:21 obelisk kernel: SCSI device sda: 503808 512-byte hdwr sectors (258 MB) Dec 25 23:34:21 obelisk kernel: sda: assuming drive cache: write through Dec 25 23:34:21 obelisk kernel: sda: sda1 Dec 25 23:34:21 obelisk kernel: Attached scsi disk sda at scsi2, channel 0, id 0, lun 0 Dec 25 23:34:21 obelisk kernel: Attached scsi generic sg0 at scsi2, channel 0, id 0, lun 0, type 0 Dec 25 23:34:21 obelisk kernel: USB Mass Storage device found at 4 Dec 25 23:34:21 obelisk /etc/hotplug/block.agent[31983]: new block device /block/sda/sda1 Dec 25 23:34:21 obelisk /etc/hotplug/block.agent[31974]: waiting for /var/lock/block.agent.lock, process 31983 holds it Dec 25 23:34:26 obelisk /etc/hotplug/block.agent[31983]: mount by-path/usb-storage-LM3000000030310:0:0:0p1 Dec 25 23:34:27 obelisk /etc/hotplug/block.agent[31974]: new block device /block/sda --------X snip X-------- Also, "cat /proc/scsi/scsi" shows: --------X snip X-------- Attached devices: Host: scsi2 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00 Vendor: LEXAR Model: ATA FLASH Rev: V1.0 Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02 --------X snip X-------- The jump drive is automagically mounted by the hotplug and subfs system. OK thanks as this is good help. I will use my son's PC I guess and get some MP3's on it. It's very nice unit with the FM capabilities also. Records voice as well. Merry Christmas, Dee

Not so fast. I've only casually followed this thread. it seems that the hardcore (read smart persons) methods haven't had the desired results so I thought I'd offer my more simplistic method (assuming you have some kde stuff installed). Have you tried finding and mounting the device with kDiskfree? #/opt/kde3/bin/kdf Just thought I'd offer the idea, if its way off base then no harm done. I don't have a "real" scsi system any longer but I'm able to mount and use my usb camera and Neuros media player/drive using this method. Good Luck -- dh Don't shop at ZipZoomFly.com!
