I am using my Tivo to digitize my old VHS tapes - VHS video out to Tivo video in .... (This is a Humax Tivo which includes a DVD burner and these are personal videos so _I_ am the copyright owner!). To edit things down and make useful videos, I need to convert the VOB files to avi/raw for editing using MainActor (Linuc based NLE). I know transcode will convert some formats but VOB is not one. In googling, I'm coming up blank. Any suggestions as how to convert the VOBs?? Rich

I have converted .vob to mpg or divx avi with transcode. .vob is not in the select list, but if you select "all files", then you can choose the .vob file and convert it -- Un Saludo. Carlos Lorenzo Matés

VOB files are mpeg2. Just a different extension. But the same basic file. I suggest using transcode if you want to convert to AVI. Just be prepared to let the conversion take time. But it is good. What are you using MainActor for? If is it to cut out what you want from the MPEG2 files, consider gopchop. It works on MPEG2 files. No recoding is needed. I just made a half doxen DVDs for the in-laws (x-mas), taking VHS tape in via a Hauppague PVR 150 into MPEG2 (VOB) files. I used gopchop to pick out the parts of the files I wanted. MPEG2 to MPEG2 without any recoding. I then used dvdauthor to make the DVD file components. -- Roger Oberholtzer
